Weekend :: Transitions

Transitions

BY ERIC E. HARRISON
ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE

Andina Cafe
closed for a couple of days earlier this week to facilitate its move from the east end of the Ottenheimer Market Building in the River Market, 400 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock, to the west end of the same building. The move makes room for

Boulevard Bread Co.
to move its downtown location into Andina's former space on or about Jan. 8.
   Meanwhile, the new Farmer's

Daughter Cafe
opened Wednesday in the former Boulevard space in the Central Arkansas Library System's Cox Creative Center, 120 Commerce St., Little Rock. Hours are 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday, until 6 Thanksgiving through Christmas. The telephone number is (501) 374-8204.
Bridget Shuffield, co-owner with Susan and John Allen, says the basic principle of the new cafe is "farm to table, to support local agriculture and businesses." That includes coffee from the Roasted Bean, a local coffee roaster; hormone- and antibiotic-free meat and cheese without preservatives, additives or coloring; salads using local greens and raw-milk cheese from a local dairy farmer; and a vegan caterer, Karen Wiebe of Cabot, who will also prepare things like blueberry muffins.
Boulevard Bread will retain a presence -- it's supplying bread and baked goods. The menu will also include sandwiches, soups and wraps.
   Another new

Starbucks
is in the final stages of construction on the site of a closed gas station next to Green Tree Nursery, near the intersection of North Rodney Parham Road and Reservoir Road. We'll keep you posted.
The 1307 John Barrow Road, Little Rock, location of Sim's Barbecue is going to be closed for a while because of fire. Details are in short supply, but the telephone number for the restaurant is (501) 224-2057, and we'll try to keep you posted.
Heather Keeton, chef and general manager at

V Lounge at Lulav
, 220 W. Sixth St., Little Rock, explains upstairs condo construction knocked out the phone line, which we recently reported as disconnected. That number is (501) 374-5100 and as of Tuesday somebody -- Keeton, actually -- was answering the phone.

Nu Cuisine Lounge
, 225 E. Markham St., Little Rock, is putting on a "French and Fabulous" five-course French dinner with champagne and appropriate wine pairings at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Dishes include Halibut Filet en Papillote, Tasmanian Steelhead Salmon with tagalitte pasta and, among the desserts, poached pears with Camembert. Wine consultant Lorri Hambuchen, also a columnist for this paper, is among the presenters. L' addition? $100 plus tax and gratuity. Call (501) 378-7500 for reservations.
Sometimes we're dependent on callers and sharp-eyed staff members to keep us up to date. One of the latter spotted Chun's

Mongolian Grill
at 612 Office Park Drive, off Stagecoach Road, in Little Rock. The place, which has actually been open almost five months, lets you choose from four kinds of meat, 15 different kind of vegetables and three sauces, which the chef cooks up for you on a large, round, flatiron grill. Hours are 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Saturday. The telephone number is (501) 847-2709. Has a restaurant opened -- or closed -- near you in the last week or so? Does your favorite eatery have a new menu? Is there a new chef in charge? Drop us a line. Call (501) 399-3667 or (501) 378-3513, or send a note to Restaurants, Weekend Section, Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, P.O. Box 2221, Little Rock, Ark. 72203. Send e-mail to:
