WASHINGTON — Democrat Barack Obama said Sunday that he would delay rescinding President Bush’s tax cuts on wealthy Americans if he becomes the next president and the economy is in a recession, suggesting such an increase would further hurt the economy.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. government seized control Sunday of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac after the biggest surge in mortgage defaults in at least three decades threatened to topple the companies making up almost half of the U.S. home loan market.
