CROSS COUNTRY
MINNESOTA WOMEN WIN UALR EVENT

    Minnesota's eighth-ranked women's team turned in a perfect score to top the field over a 4,000-meter course at the 2000 UALR Invitational Cross Country meet at Murray Park. Also competing were UALR, Vanderbilt, Wichita State and Henderson State.
    Corrine Nimtz and Elaine Eggleston led the way for Minnesota, each turning in a time of 13:40. Jenny Sjostrom was the top finisher for UALR, coming in sixth in 14:17.
    UALR's Brent Corbitt won the men's race, but in team competition, UALR was outscored by Wichita State 20-35 in a dual meet.
    In high school competition, more than 35 teams competed in four races. Peter Merston of Mountain Home won the boys 5,000-meter race in 16:03. Dawn Crawford of Mountain Home won the girls 4,000-meter race in 15:25. Russellville's Zach Lee won the junior high boys 2,000-meter race in 6:47, and Lindsey White of Russellville was the junior high girls winner over 2,000 meters in 7:46.

UALR TAKES SECOND IN TOURNEY

    UALR shot a one-under-par 863 to finish second, one stroke behind Wyoming, at the Herb Wimberly/NMSU Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M.
    Individually, Daniel Fox tied for 12th with a three-round 216 to lead the Trojans. Casey Yates and Manuel Bermudez each shot 218 and finished in a tie for 17th. Daniel Puunberg's 219 tied for 25th, while Billy Zihala shot 222 and finished tied for 35th.
    Chris Wilson of Louisiana-Monroe shot a 5-under 211 to claim the individual title.
   
VOLLEYBALL
UALR KNOCKS OFF WESTERN KENTUCKY

    Tanja Radovic had a season-high 25 kills in leading UALR (12-3, 5-1 Sun Belt Conference) to a 16-14, 15-4, 15-10 victory over Western Kentucky.
    Raquel Sampaio added 15 kills, while Jelena Radovanovic had 10 kills and 12 digs for UALR.
    Tara Thomas paced Western Kentucky with 14 kills, while Jessica Willard added 10.
