Hollis not pleased after scrimmage

Although Arkansas State's football team accomplished quite a few things in Saturday morning's scripted scrimmage, Coach Joe Hollis was still not happy with his team's tempo a week away from the season opener.
"We got what we wanted accomplished," Hollis said. "We didn't get anybody hurt. We got a lot of looks at Georgia's offensive scheme and a lot of looks at Georgia's defensive scheme. Also, we saturated the kicking game, and that's exactly what we wanted to do today."
About the tempo, Hollis said: "It was very slow and that's unacceptable. I think we picked it up as the series went on, but we started out very slow."
Several players were absent from drills, but head trainer Ron Carroll indicated that he expects most to return on Monday. Those missing include defensive lineman Bryant Berry (back), defensive lineman Brian Rucker (groin), running back Sanchez Sherer (back), defensive lineman Corey Williams (strained groin), and defensive back Keith Headley (leg).
ASU opens the 2001 season Sept. 1 against Georgia in Athens, Ga. Kickoff is scheduled for noon Central.
