Local briefsDEMOCRAT-GAZETTE STAFF AND PRESS SERVICESTENNIS PETTIGROSSO EXTENDS WIN STREAK UALR junior Mariano Pettigrosso extended his singles winning streak to 22 matches with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Chris Rivera of George Mason University in the prequalifying round of the T. Row Price National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships at The Suburban Club of Baltimore County in Pikesville, Md. The Mar del Plata, Argentina, native then defeated Joao Leite of Winthrop 6-3, 6-2 and Mikko Viljanen of Tulane 6-0, 6-3. Pettigrosso has not lost a match since Jan. 21 and has been taken to three sets only twice since then. UALR's Olga Rejniak defeated Bianca Trpseka of Nevada 6-2, 6-3 in her collegiate debut. She then defeated Lourdes Riusedh of American University 6-3, 6-1. CROSS COUNTRY UALR TIES WITH OKLAHOMA STATE The UALR women's cross country team scored 48 points to finish in a first-place tie with Oklahoma State at the SMU Invitational in Dallas. UTEP was third with 57, host SMU fourth with 101 and Oklahoma fifth with 103. Natasha Wodak was UALR's top finisher, coming in fifth in 18:26.5. Shasta Beal was seventh at 18:38.0, Johanne Runyan 10th in 19:04.7, Jenny Sjostrom 11th in 19:07.0 and Leah Thorvilson 15th in 9:16.4. Oklahoma State's Sarah Wells won in 17:20.5. On the men's side, Brent Corbitt turned in the top performance for UALR, finishing third in 25:30.8. SOCCER UALR FALLS TO STEPHEN F. AUSTIN A pair of late goals spurred Stephen F. Austin to a 2-0 victory over UALR in women's soccer at the Riverdale Soccer Complex Sunday in Little Rock. With 11:15 left, SFA's Kimberly Elger passed to Angela Rocco, who beat UALR goalie Heather Friedman for the first goal. With 2:06 remaining, Friedman crumpled to the grass with a leg injury as Anna Steed dribbled in for SFA's second goal.
