Razorbacks' Breeden could miss entire seasonSCOTT CAINARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE Barring a grade change, Arkansas receiver Sam Breeden will not be eligible to play this season. Breeden, a junior college transfer, has been practicing since arriving two weeks ago but was held out of Saturday's season opener against Southwest Missouri State because the transfer papers had not been received as of Friday, Coach Houston Nutt said. But Breeden's problem apparently is deeper. He made a D in the class that is waiting to clear the proper channels, and Arkansas does not accept Ds from junior college transfers, two sources confirmed. Breeden can try to appeal to a faculty committee to waive the rule for him. Receiver Boo Williams tried that last year and failed, eventually gaining his eligibility through a correspondence course that he started during the summer. Breeden has three years of eligibility and no redshirt season. If he cannot play this year, he would have only two years of eligibility remaining. He cannot transfer to another school that accepts Ds without losing a year of eligibility because he already has started class at Arkansas. Besides the in-house appeal, Breeden can ask the Arizona school through which he took the course to refigure his grade to make sure it is correct. Breeden was expected to contribute in a limited role this season after catching 43 passes for 787 yards and 2 touchdowns at Butler County (Kan.) Community College.
