Razorbacks ReportMuscle strain not restraining passing gameA strained abdominal muscle shouldn't hinder Arkansas quarterback Robby Hampton's passing and neither should inexperience, Coach Houston Nutt said.Hampton practiced all week with the sore muscle that he originally injured last year and aggravated Sunday. He didn't throw well Wednesday but looked much sharper Thursday. "I don't think it's going to affect him the way he threw the ball today," Nutt said. Hampton said the pain flared up during two-a-day practices and went away within days. He said he expects to be fine for Saturday's game against Southwest Missouri State after resting today and most of Saturday. Nutt will need a well-rested quarterback to do more than hand off. "I think we're going to surprise you," Nutt said. "We're going to throw every formation at them. We're going to open it up. We're going to show a lot confidence in Robby Hampton." NO WORD FROM NCAA The NCAA let stand Arkansas' one-game suspension of senior defensive end Randy Garner, Athletic Director Frank Broyles said Thursday. But Arkansas still is awaiting word from the NCAA about a series of self-reported violations that occurred from 1994-99. As many as two dozen athletes might have received excessive pay for work done for booster Ted Harrod of Dallas, though an SEC and university investigation could not determine an exact number of infractions because of sloppy bookkeeping at Harrod's businesses. Garner accepted $100 for two to three hours of work last December. START STREAK WILL END The longest active streak of consecutive starts among Razorbacks will end Saturday when senior defensive end Randy Garner serves a one-game suspension. Garner has started 32 consecutive games, easily the longest current streak on the team. The next closest players are nose guard Curt Davis and offensive linemen La'Zerius White and Kenny Sandlin who have started 12 consecutive games apiece. The university suspended Garner for accepting $100 from a booster for two to three hours of work. HOUSE CALL Redshirt freshman defensive end Raymond House will make his first college start sooner than expected. House will back up senior Randy Garner this season but moved into the starting job for the opener because of Garner's suspension. House is from Little Rock and the game will be played at War Memorial Stadium. "It's always good to go home," House said. "An unfortunate situation came about but that's part of the game. I'm just trying to get ready for the situation because I've been called on." NEAR MISS FOR SNOWDEN Receiver Michael Snowden apparently came close to being declared ineligible for Saturday's game over an academic problem, but wouldn't say much about the matter Thursday. "All I know is he's eligible," Coach Houston Nutt said. "I was going to get really involved today but it didn't come to pass, so it's great news." NEW CHEER Arkansas cheerleaders and drum line will introduce a new chant Saturday based on the defense's code red motto. They will lead the crowd in chants of "Code Red! Code Red!" when the defense takes the field. HOME RUNS Arkansas' 13-game home winning streak ties the second-longest in school history, the longest being 18 games from 1963-66. The run also ranks seventh nationally among current home winning streaks.
