Notes' debut to come against dear old dad

ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE

FAYETTEVILLE -- It will be Richardson vs. Richardson in the Arkansas Razorbacks' 2000-01 season opener.
The Razorbacks will face Tennessee State in the first game of the John Thompson Foundation Challenge Classic on Nov. 17 at Bud Walton Arena. Tennessee State is coached by Nolan Richardson III, the son of Arkansas Coach Nolan Richardson.
The younger Richardson took the Tennessee State job earlier this year after many seasons as an assistant for Nolan Richardson.
The Razorbacks will play their first seven games at home before facing Oklahoma State on Dec. 9 in Tulsa. The Razorbacks play at Oklahoma two games later on Dec. 23.
Arkansas' other nonconference game of note is against Memphis at home on Dec. 2. Ten of Arkansas' 12 nonconference games will be at home, which could help Arkansas build momentum before SEC play.
"I think we have another tough schedule on our hands," Nolan Richardson said in a press release. "Our non-onference schedule is good enough that we can build some confidence before we head into the murderous SEC schedule."
Arkansas begins conference play at Mississippi State on Jan. 6. Game times were not announced.
As expected, the Razorbacks will not play any games in Little Rock's Alltel Arena this upcoming season. Arkansas athletic director Frank Broyles said the Razorbacks will return in the 2001-02 season.
"We are working with Alltel Arena to try to find a way to bring a marquee game to Central Arkansas," Broyles said in the news release. "We want it to be a win-win situation for the University of Arkansas and Alltel Arena. I think our fans will be excited about the opportunity to see some top quality games at Alltel Arena in the years to come."
