DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE PRESS SERVICES

Arkansas' Joe Johnson is one of the 16 finalists for the USA Basketball's 20-and-under World Championship qualifying team.
Johnson, a 6-8 guard/forward, led the Razorbacks in scoring (16.0 per game) and rebounding (5.7) as a freshman despite not becoming academically eligible until December.
The 12-man team will represent the United States in a world championship qualifying tournament July 19-23 in Ribeiro Preto, Brazil. The tournament will consist of teams from North America, South America and the Caribbean. The top three teams from the tournament will earn a spot in next year's 20-and-under World Championships in Japan.
Johnson will attend a training camp July 11-16 in Miami. The team will be selected during the final three days of the camp.
The other finalists are: Steve Blake (Maryland), Carlos Boozer (Duke), Nick Collison (Kansas), Brian Cook (Illinois), Mike Dunleavy (Duke), Drew Gooden (Kansas), Steve Logan (Cincinnati), Tayshaun Prince (Kentucky), Jason Richardson (Michigan State), Kenny Satterfield (Cincinnati), Johnnie Selvic (Connecticut), Bobby Simmons (DePaul), and Jason Williams (Duke).
Zach Randolph of Marion (Ind.) High School and Marcus Taylor of Waverly (Mich.) High School, are also finalists. Both have signed national letters of intent to play at Michigan State.
Jim Boeheim of Syracuse is the head coach of the team. His assistants are Houston's Ray McCallum and Hofstra's Jay Wright.
