ASU holds first scrimmage

Arkansas State Coach Joe Hollis said after the Indians' first fall scrimmage Wednesday that upperclassmen need to show more leadership.
Hollis gave veteran players little time on the field because he was more interested in reviewing the progress of freshmen and junior college transfers, particularly on defense.
"Offensively, what was disappointing was the intangibles," Hollis said. "We have some veteran players that need to exert themselves in leadership roles. We're gonna play a young quarterback, I don't know who it is yet, but we're gonna play a young quarterback. Trust me."
Freshman quarterbacks Josh Driscoll and Elliott Jacobs each moved the ball well during the scrimmage, with Jacobs leading a touchdown drive.
Wide receiver Mark Hamilton injured a knee and needed a cart to leave the field. Trainer Ron Carroll said an MRI was planned for Hamilton to determine the extent of the injury.
The Indians continue two-a-days Thursday and Friday, with another scrimmage set for Saturday.
