The Children's Hour: Child pornography in Arkansas

Overview / Background, reaction and followup
The Children's Hour: Jan. 7-10, 2001

2 youths plead innocent to child-porn charges

Little Rock police arrested two youths Thursday on child pornography charges for their participation in videotaped sex acts with a 16-year-old girl.
Police did not release the boys' names, but court records reveal that Jeremy Shavis, 16, and Marcus Robinson, 16, both of Little Rock, were arrested Thursday and charged with "engaging children in sexually explicit conduct for use in visual or print medium." The charge is a Class C felony.
Shavis and Robinson pleaded innocent Friday in Little Rock Municipal Court, and were ordered held in lieu of $2,500 bail. Shavis was still being held late Friday afternoon in the Pulaski County jail, but Robinson had been released on bail.
A police report said a 14-year-old boy was charged as a juvenile in connection with the incident, but the report did not include the charge the boy faces.
The investigation began when a 16-year-old Little Rock girl walked into Arkansas State Police headquarters Feb. 17 and reported that she had been raped, according to a police report.
The girl told investigators that she went with her boyfriend to his home, where the two had consensual sexual intercourse. The boyfriend, whose name was not released by police, then invited eight of his friends over and told the girl "that if she loved him, she would have sex with his friends," the report said.
Little Rock police said they are continuing an investigation into the videotape recording.
