The long journey from the Marshall Islands to Northwest Arkansas For the Marshallese, Northwest Arkansas has become the land of opportunity. Over the last decade, the population around Springdale, Arkansas has grown to at least 3,000, roughly five percent of the Marshall Islands's total population. Springdale is now home to the largest population of Marshallese outside of the islands. The inhabitants have abandoned a way of life that sustained their ancestors for thousands of years. But trading tradition for the modern world in not easy bargain. They have moved to Arkansas in search of a better life. But will they find one?
